An iconic site undergoing a major transformation, designed to benefit both visitors and the local landscape: at the south-western end of Parc de Sceaux, an ambitious redevelopment and reconstruction project is underway to breathe new life into the Grenouillère Aquatic Centre.
Designed by Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes (DFA), this new facility, which blends seamlessly into the park’s landscape, will feature three indoor pools, two outdoor pools (a year-round Nordic pool and a summer leisure pool), a wild river, a water slide, a play lagoon and an underground car park.
A flagship project for the restoration of the site and its reappropriation by the public, for which setec bâtiment is providing project management services for structural engineering, building services, road and utilities, and fire safety – Fire Safety Coordination and Terrasol (Setec Group), with Silvia Delattre Levis Leyser as geotechnical project manager.
The distinctive feature of the project lies in a structural paradox: a building in which a large part of the superstructure consists of a lightweight steel frame, yet the substructure is largely buried, particularly on the western side due to a steep slope. This configuration and the specific hydrogeological issues studied by Setec Hydratec (a near-surface water table and exceptional water levels at the TN) generate tensile stresses linked to interstitial negative pressures, which necessitate the use of deep foundations anchored in the ground and a 60 cm-thick waterproof floating slab to ensure the stability of the structure.
Since 2019, our teams have been supporting the project through a comprehensive programme of work:
• G1-APS from
2019• G2-AVP and G2-PRO between 2020 and
2021• And now, the G4 phase during the construction stage.
The pile foundation has now been completed and the car park’s retaining walls are being finalised.
Expertise deployed at every stage:
Throughout these phases, Terrasol (Setec Group) has applied its expertise to understand a challenging geotechnical context, adapt the foundation solutions, and ensure the safety and durability of the structure.
This project perfectly illustrates our ability to work on complex public infrastructure projects that bring together architectural, technical and environmental considerations.
Applying geotechnical engineering to create a more accessible, sustainable and liveable city: that’s what engineering at Terrasol (Setec Group) is all about. 🎯
